We are a Community School united in our relentless commitment to academic and personal growth for every student.

          A Message From Mr. Platt

Tiger Families,

April has come and gone! With warmer days on the horizon and the end of the school year right around the corner, we are working hard to ensure we are squeezing every last drop of this amazing year!

In May we will finish State Testing and complete our I-Ready Diagnostic.  This is an important opportunity for our kiddos to show the amazing growth that we know they have made! The best thing you can do to support your students through these tests is to ensure they get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. As always, school attendance is critical. Every Day Matters!  School attendance is the single greatest predictor of long-term success in school. This is even more important during state and district testing.

The planning process for our Summer Music Concert (June 6th)  and the Boots and Bling Auction (May 18th) is underway.  Our PTC is working long hours right now! I am so grateful for their support. The funds raised at this year's auction will be used to maintain our current programs as well as create a field trip fund!  If you haven't already, buy your tickets to this year's Auction! It is bound to be a great time!

Class Placements: In May, we spend a great deal of time creating class rosters for next year. We consider many components when creating the rosters. One of those is the Student Information Sheet. While we don’t accept parent requests for specific teachers, we do consider the information on the Student Information Sheet. If you would like to fill out a Student Information Sheetplease contact the office and we will email you one. Please have it turned in to the office by Monday, May 8th. Classes will be loaded into ParentVue in August.

Take care,

Mr. Platt

News From Mrs. Hoyt

Happy May Tumalo Families,

While there is still plenty of fun and learning to be done this school year - It is hard to believe that this school year is on its way to being over.  There is an energy coming back to students and staff alike.

As with all years,  this year has brought its challenges and adversities, and its blessings and successes.  Second grade is headed back to the zoo again! And 5th graders are headed back to Camp Tamarack for outdoor school.

After School clubs abound and it is so fun to see all the fun happening after hours at Tumalo.

I am looking forward to all of our annual end of the year traditions here at Tumalo:

  •  the kindergarten ABC countdown where they countdown the days to the end of school from A-Z

  •  5th grade blast from the past where students dress up and give speeches about a historical figure that they have studied and researched

  • Our 2nd annual Spring Concert

  • Our always creative and fun Field day (cross your fingers for warm weather!)

  • Our 5th graders are ziplining their way into middle school! This will be the first zip line since 2019! I can’t wait!

  •  My favorite end of the year tradition - the Senior Walk.  Previous Tumalo Tigers that are graduating this year will come walk the halls of Tumalo in their graduation gowns and let the students applaud them. The rest of us will greet them with questions, congratulations, hugs, and high 5’s.

Enjoy your Spring, Tigers!  This year has almost ended, so enjoy all the moments while it lasts.

Best,

Meredith Hoyt

School Counselor

 A Note From Nurse Megan

Happy May Tumalo Families!

I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by. Spring seems to be trying to peek through, and the end of the school year is just around the corner.

One of my joys this year has been the creation of my “Tooth Wall.” When a student loses a tooth, they bring it to me and I put their picture on my bulletin board. What started as a silly, fun idea has turned into something very sweet and special, and students in all grades come up excited to proudly display their newly changed smiles. I will do my best to send these photos home with your students at the end of the year if they are one of the lucky ones to lose a tooth at school.

Since this is the last newsletter of the school year, here are a couple of reminders

  • If you have medications here at school, please remember to pick them up by the last day of school. District Policy requires me to discard leftover medications, I cannot keep them over until the next school year.

  • With events such as the spring concert and field day coming up, please remember your student’s water bottle, as well as sunscreen and other forms of sun protection.

Wishing you all a wonderful spring season, thank you for once again being part of our Tumalo Community.

Be Well,

Nurse Megan

News from The Gym

Happy spring Tiger families!

Our 2-5th graders just finished up their inline skating unit with a Disco Skate day in our gym!   We also had an amazing turnout for our first annual “Family Skate Night” at the Bend Pavilion. Thanks to all who were able to make it!  It’s already on their calendar for next year :)

Coming up our 3-5th will be doing their cardiovascular endurance fitness testing with the Pacer Test.  We will see if they can improve their score from our fall testing.    We will also be practicing our track and field skills as the 5th graders prepare for their district track meet on June 7th.  We are very excited to go push our limits and cheer on our classmates against all the other Redmond SD 5th graders!

Our lunchtime “Tumalo Run Club” is getting up and running (get it?!) again as our weather is finally turning to spring.    If any parent is interested in helping out, we are looking for volunteers to help from 12:00-1:00 any day of the week :)     Currently, we are running on Wednesdays only as my schedule permits.

Please help your child remember to wear their safe PE shoes to school!

Finally, our end of the year  FIELD DAY is coming soon!

  • Thursday, June 13th

  • K-2nd:    Morning-more details to come

  • 3-5th:     Afternoon- more details to come

  • We need volunteers to help run this fun day!   Please let your child’s teacher know if you can help out!!!!

Keep movin’!

CJ Johnson 🙂

 Library News

Summer Reading is on the horizon!

With just 7 weeks remaining of school, we still have time to develop strong reading habits that will keep our skills strong all summer long.  Extended daylight opens an opportunity to turn some pages outside in the hammock, on the lawn, by the river, or in a treehouse. Pick your favorite places to read and give yourself that time as often as possible.  Summer reading programs are offered through the public library, local booksellers, and online platforms.  As always, any student who returns to school in the fall with a summer reading log of titles or time will be rewarded with a library gift!

Tumalo library books will ALL be due on May 31st, Friday.  Our classroom libraries have loads of books and of course, the public system will happily lend books to finish out the school year.  Any library books still checked out after May 31st will be considered lost and we will request the replacement fee.  Better yet, find it late and get it back to us!

Message Mrs. Hitchcock with any questions or concerns and we will work toward solutions together.

We are conducting a full inventory of our library books.  This information will steer future purchases and identify strengths and opportunities in our collection.  By next fall our online catalog will reflect accurate listings of the books that your students may borrow.

Meanwhile, dig into your favorite stories, informational texts, and series!

From the Reading Corner
Summer break is around the corner and keeping our kiddos reading is an important part of being ready for their next grade in the fall!

Here is a link to great new books sorted by reading level all sorted and ready to go for you.  Visit your library or read online and enjoy your summer vacation with some good reads! Happy reading :)

TUMALO PTC NEWS

   Auction Classroom Baskets
We started to collect donations for our auction baskets (items or cash). It is not too late to bring something in. Each grade has a basket theme:

Kindergarten: Gardening                                                                                                                   1st: Arts and Crafts
2nd: Summer Fun
3rd: Survival
4th: Cooking
5th: Family Fun Night
Please start shopping for fun items to help fill up your student's grade level "basket" (wheelbarrow).
We are also working on grade level projects that will be auctioned off at the live auction. We are asking each family to donate $5 per class to help offset the cost of the projects. Please send cash as we have no way to cash checks for purchasing our supplies.
BONUS**
We are going to have a U of O Duck and OSU Beaver basket to raffle off as well. Please look for your favorite Duck or Beaver goodies to add to the basket. We have done this in the past and we have been able to gather some really fun, unique items. Support your team and share the Beaver and Duck spirit!

Volunteering
Parents who are interested in volunteering at Tumalo School can go to the Redmond School District website to fill out the online application. Once processed these are good for a year. Please call if you need to know your expiration date. Doing this early is helpful in the event you want to attend a field trip, etc
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
  • Please do not drop off your students until 8:45.  There is no adult supervision before 8:45. Please wait until you see an adult before letting your students out of the car.
  • Please share with your students their plan for after school, daily. If you need to make changes to the after-school plan, please call the office no later than 2:30.
  •  Please be respectful of the staff parking lot as well.   We have some staff arriving/leaving during the drop-off and pickup times. Please do not block the parking lot.
  • Lost and Found is overflowing, please stop by and check it while you are in the building. Also, please remember to write your students' names on all their personal items such as lunchboxes,  jackets, sweatshirts, hats...etc. It helps us get their item back to them once it's found.
