A Note From Nurse Megan
Hello Tumalo Families,
Happy Autumn Tumalo Tigers, I hope you are all enjoying the change to the season. As always, now that we are all back together, we are seeing an uptick in respiratory illnesses. I am doing my best to get into each of the classrooms to remind students about proper handwashing and other hygiene tips to help slow the spread of the pathogens that cause these pesky illnesses.
Please ask your child what they are learning about handwashing and help them practice at home as well. Along with this, I am including current guidance from OHA in this letter outlining when to keep a student home from school when they are not feeling well. *Please note that students who have had a fever can return to school when they have been fever- free for 24 hrs without fever reducing medication, and students who have vomited or had diarrhea must stay home from school for a full 24hrs once symptoms have resolved.
COVID Update There has been a recent uptick in COVID numbers and I have been getting a lot of questions, understandably. Here is the latest guidance concerning COVID that has been provided to the district by the Oregon Health Authority. "If you are infected with COVID-19 you do not need to isolate for a set number of days. However, you should be aware that you can get others sick. If you have COVID-19: stay home until you have not had a fever for 24 hrs without using fever reducing medication, have no cough or cough is well-controlled (not actively coughing) and other COVID-19 symptoms are improving. Avoid contact with high-risk individuals like people who live in congregate care facilities or people with immunocompromising conditions for 10 days. Consider masking when you are around other people in the 10 days after you become sick or test positive. (This is not mandatory, it is strongly encouraged as a courtesy to others). If you have a severe case, are hospitalized or are severely immunocompromised please follow the recommendations above, avoid contact with high-risk people, and mask for 10-20 days. Please contact your healthcare provider for advice on how long to isolate."
Spare Clothing Fall and winter bring unpredictable weather, even as we enjoy this beautiful fall weather, I know soon I will see more and more students coming to me cold because they accidentally got wet while out on the playground. I feel it is always a good idea to send an extra change of clothes along with your students in their backpacks, even your 4th and 5th graders! This can be a great way to avoid an unexpected trip to the school. This also comes in handy if your student has a bloody nose or bathroom accident. I have a few things on hand, but in many cases I do not have the right size for a student in need of a change of clothes, so to have something already with them gets them back to class much faster.
Immunizations I would also like to take the opportunity for my annual reminder to be sure your child’s immunizations are up-to-date. Please view the attached flyer for Oregon’s immunization requirements. The exclusion date for students who do not have their immunizations is in February, but I am always so surprised at how quickly it arrives! I am always happy to answer questions about Oregon requirements, help you with tracking down records, or assist you with what is needed to complete a non-medical exemption.
Be well and enjoy this gorgeous autumn season!
Nurse Megan

Library News
Time to FALL into a GOOD BOOK! While the sun shines brightly most days, the mornings are crisp and cool! Autumn is in the air!
John Sinor said, "October is crisp days and cool nights, a time to curl up around the dancing flames and sink into a good book".
In the library, we will explore autumn themes, mystery and seasonal books, Dia de los Muertos and harvests. Our non-fiction books are “begging” to be explored by curious students who want to discover the secrets hidden in the pages. We have new craft books, wildlife books, sport books and access to countless digital books to help your child explore the world from the comfort of your home.
The Oregon Battle of the Books is in full swing! More than half of our titles are already in the hands of our students. If you would like to support our readers, please reach out to Mrs. Hitchcock to find out more.

SCHOOL LUNCHES
We are pleased to inform you that Redmond School District will be implementing the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) district-wide for the 2024-2025 School Year. District-wide CEP increases school meals’ accessibility, promotes food security by financially supporting families, reduces the stigma associated with school meal benefits, simplifies the payment system, enhances convenience, and increases participation.
What does this mean for you and your child(ren)?
All Redmond School District (and Redmond Proficiency Academy) students will be eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge each regular school day of the 2024−2025 school year. In order to be reimbursable, these meals must meet certain criteria, including at least 1/2 cup of fruit or vegetable. You may still want to keep a balance on your child(ren)'s school meal account in the event that they would like to purchase extra entrees or individual milk. All students are still welcome to bring food from home.
Note that this will also mean that RSD Nutrition Services will no longer accept or process school meal benefit applications. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in this no-cost school meal program without having to apply.
If we can answer any questions or be of any further assistance, please contact Redmond School District's Child Nutrition Department at 541-923-8238 or nutrition@redmondschools.org

News From the Gym
Hello Tiger Families!
I’m so excited to be part of your child’s social and physical journey in education!
Our main goals at Tumalo Physical Education are:
Safety: Please help by reminding your child to wear safe shoes on their PE days!
Good Sportsmanship/kindness: “If you had fun, you won!” “Good job!”
Healthy lifestyle activities and fitness: Let’s keep moving!
Doing our best to be our best!
So far in P.E., all classes have been focusing on cooperation and team building.
Our 2nd-5th graders learned the meaning of teamwork, fitness, frustration, and fun while completing “Hula Hut Challenges”.

They have also been learning the school rules of many playground games (tetherball, wallball, gagaball, and 4-square).
Our K/1 students have been working on their locomotor skills and teamwork while playing “Poison Hoops”, hula hoop challenges, and tag games.
Looking forward to a great year in the gym!!
Coming up: Jog-a-thon!!! October 31st! We will need two volunteers from each class to help during your child’s jog-a-thon time. Please contact your child’s teacher if you can help!
Work hard, play hard, be kind,
CJ Johnson
